Storm walked slowly to the edge of the trees, his black tassels blowing in the cool evening breeze. His senses were wild and alive, and he was sure that he could almost feel the entire world beneath his hooves. There was no sign of a soul beyond the forest, and the open air looked cool and inviting to the young stallion. Breathing deeply, the bay cautiously stepped out into the meadow, and was instantly hit by the vastness of the place. In the distance, the dark mountains stretched up high into the sky, their silhouettes outlined by the red horizon.

Bellow his hooves was soft, lush grass, and Storm felt his heart race as he heard the sound of running water from a stream not far away. The forest behind him encircled the meadow and made the land before him look like an oasis, untouched by no one other than himself. The cool breeze whipped around his head and then blew away up into the peaks, taking with it a part of Storm's heart. It was as though he had lived in this land forever, and yet everything he looked upon was new to him. This was his home, and he could feel it in his very blood.

The bay stallion trotted strongly towards a small hillock deeper into the meadow, and standing upon it, he rose his front legs into the air and screamed to the sky. "I, Storm, claim this land as mine. Let it be heard!" His voice was lifted by the wind, so that it rang around the hills and swept across the grasses. He called again, before dropping with a thud to the earth. This was a bold move for him, being only just four years old, but he knew that this was right for him, and that it was his destiny.

Storm heard the hoof-beats long before he laid eyes on the stallion, and so was fully prepared by the time he had arrived. They stood face to face for a moment, as if to size each other up. The bay could feel the wind in the mountains calling his name, this was his true home, he could feel it, and it was a feeling he was going to fight to protect.

He shook his head proudly and turned away from the stag, trotting with his banners in the air for a few paces before stopping and turning towards his opponent. "Then I am ready. But before we begin, at least let me hear your name." Storm pounded the earth with one of his front daggers, scraping at it as though to rip it away. "I am Storm."

The evening breeze blew cold across his whithers, and the long grass hissed as though it were hiding snakes. He was ready for this. The land all at once fell still, and the night seemed deserted and wasted. From above, an eagle cried almost in anticipation, and Storm felt his heart-rate quicken. All he wished for was a word - a name, and then they could begin this.

In the stallion's eyes, Storm could see a darkness that was not in his own, and something flashed before his mind. The red sky seemed to be bleeding upon the lands, and beyond the forest, a storm was growing and the dark clouds were gathering. A single bolt of lightening split the sky, lighting up the dim horizon for a second before vanishing - causing the deep thunder the rumble like the call of a god.
